Sound familiar?

You know something isn't right. Nobody has told you what.

Most women carry their health questions alone: the search at 2am, the friend who "had the same thing", the visit you keep putting off because you're not sure it's serious enough. The problem is rarely only access. It's doubt.

"Is this normal?"

Your period changed. Your mood changed with it. You don't know whether the two are connected, or whether either one matters.

"Is it worth a visit?"

You don't want to waste a doctor's time — or your money — on nothing. So you wait, and the question stays.

"What do I even say?"

When you finally sit down in front of someone, the months blur. You leave having forgotten half of what you meant to mention.

We asked first

Nearly 200 women in Ghana told us what they needed. We listened.

Before we wrote a line of code, we surveyed women about their bodies, their minds, and what had kept them from care — and sat down for dozens more informal conversations, in clinics, kitchens and group chats. Their answers shaped every part of Amra.

39%

had put off seeing a doctor because they didn't think it was serious — the single most common reason.

55%

had wanted mental health support and never sought it. Most often because they didn't know where to go, or couldn't afford it.

85%

had felt anxiety, low mood or mood changes tied to their cycle, pregnancy or hormones. Body and mind, together.

79%

said the thing they want most from a health professional is a clear explanation. Confidentiality came next.

80%

said privacy would decide whether they'd use a health app at all — closely followed by the fear of wrong medical advice.

7 in 10

said mental health support would be the feature that made them download — ahead of period tracking.

Taking pain and symptoms seriously by default.

Survey response, Accra

So we built Amra to explain clearly, keep your privacy, hold body and mind together — and take what you feel seriously, by default.

From two Amra surveys of women in Ghana, 2025–2026 (176 responses in total, most from Greater Accra), alongside several dozen informal conversations with women. Percentages are from the surveys, of the women who answered each question. Quotes are shared anonymously, as written.

Not a tracker. A companion.

Most apps track your body. Amra listens to the whole of you.

Amra holds your reproductive and mental health together, because you live them together, and almost nothing else in your life does. It helps you notice what's really happening, recognise what deserves attention, and walk into a consulting room knowing exactly what to say.

It will never pretend to know something it doesn't. An estimate is called an estimate. Amra doesn't diagnose, and it will always tell you when a real person should be the next step.

And one more, bigger than the rest

Amra is for every woman — not only the ones who can already afford good care.

We are building Amra so that a woman's access to understanding, and to care, doesn't depend on what's in her purse. That is the work, and we'll keep you posted on it.

Dr Naani Salia and Zakiyah Salia, the sisters who founded Amra
Two sisters, one shared belief

Amra began in a consulting room in Accra.

One of us sat across from women in clinic, year after year, and kept hearing the same thing: "I didn't know if it was normal. I didn't know where to go." The other builds technology for a living and knew it didn't have to be this way.

So we built the companion we wished those women had — one that takes the whole of you seriously, tells you the truth, and never sells what you tell it.

Dr Naani Salia
Founder & CEO

A licensed physician who has practised across internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry and surgery. She leads Amra's build herself, turning what she saw in clinic into something a woman can hold in her hand. Away from it, she's behind a camera.

Zakiyah Salia
Co-founder & CTO

Holds a Master's in Computer Science and works at one of West Africa's most respected fintech companies, with a deep interest in machine learning, which she brings to Amra's technical direction. Away from her work in technology, she's a gifted singer.

Early testers wanted

Help us get Amra right.

We're finishing the build now and opening it to a small group of women in Ghana first. If you join, you'll use Amra before anyone else — and what you tell us will shape what every woman after you gets.

1Free, and always will be for early testers.
2Use the app for a few weeks and tell us what's confusing, missing or wrong. Plain honesty is the whole job.
3Your data stays yours. You can leave, and take it with you, at any time.
